Bed bugs are simply the small parasitic insects found mostly lurking in our bed mattresses. Bed bugs or otherwise known scientifically as cimicidae are light brown to reddish-brown, flattened, oval shaped and have no hind wings but have front wings that are shrunken.

Its name, “beg bug” is derived from it’s preferred habitat: it prefers to live in places where people sleep. Bud bugs are not strictly nocturnal but they are mostly active during night time. In other places, bed bugs are called louse, mahogany flat, heavy dragoon, chinche, crimson rambler or redcoat. Just like mosquitoes, bed bugs locate their hosts by tracing the presence of carbon dioxide and of course, they also suck blood as food.

The lifespan of bed bugs depends on their species and their feeding routine. Most bed bugs can live up to 6 months to a year without feeding. However, a few species can only last to about a month.
